Doors of Venice

venice does doors really well. Now you may think that is an odd statement but after having looked at the doors in Paris, who also does them well, in Milan, who is mediocre in my humble opinion, I have come to the conclusion that Venice aces it.

They can be classy,

very, very old and intimidating

making you feel that if they clapped you behind them you wouldn't see the sunlight for years,

                                   astonishingy both side by side,

so often surrounded by peeling paint and scarred stone walls,

it could just be a gate leading tantalisingly into a narrow pathway.

However, where they really do succeed is their doorhandles!

These come in many shapes and sizes and again can be elegant, whimsical, odd, even sometimes a little creepy with faces that resemble the masks that Venice is so famous for.

Regardless they are a source of endless fascination and entertainment.

just another fascinating juxtaposition of medieval and modern life.
