CHRISTMAS DAY IN PARIS

Lovely quiet Christmas Sunday morning on Quai Jemmapes.    Definately no snow this Christmas but can't say I'mvery disappointed.

The streets of Paris are unusually bare at 2.30 in the afternoon,

as is the metro,

But when you reach the Champs Elysee at the opposite end from the Arc de Triomphe at 5.30pm, it all changes,

The Italians aren't the only ones who love to promenade.  Turns out Paris does it in style on Christmas night.

And if they aren't on foot, they are on wheels, the automated kind, and they are honking their horns to try and move traffic which is unmoveable.

they poke their noses into impossible places, the pedestrians dodge them, weaving their way in and out regardless of the outraged looks from the drivers.  Paris drivers and pedestrians seem to have a unique way of ignoring each other in an effort to win.  The only thing that controls them are 'the lights'.

Or the policemen with their whistles!

The markets offer the usual array of sugar laden goodies,

The churro man,

the dogs dressed in coats to match their owners, not sure which end is which with this one,

The lovely, sparkly decorations

these ones change colour regularly and remind me of Jane Jetsons skirt,

these little carts are everywhere to transport those wishing for a different experience, they are not all dressed like Santa though,

beautifully decorated shops and restuarants,

Lets take a bus tour on Christmas night and enjoy the sights from the top deck, quite possibly the best view of the evening,

And the we come to Le Arc de Triomphe, calmly looking down on the traffice jam beneach her, as she has done for many years,
I bet he's glad when this day is over

the rows of tail lights intermingled with the Christmas ones have a glitter and attraction of their own

Back to a quiet metro although there were more people than this indicates

And a night time view of the canal with the lights reflected in the water,

Joyeux Noel to all

Jo
