ANCIENT LYON

Lyon is a beautiful city.

 Ancient.

Full of mysterious passageways, called Traboules, that were used by the silk weavers of the 16th and 17th century. There is one dating to the 4th century.
They were known to be used for fleeing citizens during the French Revolution and also by the resistance during WW11.

Around almost every corner there is something to catch the eye. Whether it be the ancient,

The street art the French are so fond of

A beautiful mademoiselle!!

French fungi amongst the overgrown patches of grass

steps, steps and more steps, often of the very steep variety

Rooftop gardens

Ancient walls still standing after being built to help defend

Tea Salons, of which the Lyonnaise are very fond.   Paris take a hint,

old buildings now housing art and providing lovely gardens for weary tourists to eat lunch previously bought from the markets that morning

modern fountains amidst the old,

The very first cat I have seen in France that is wandering free, dogs seem to be preferred.  Go figure!!??
Doors that look as though they have been there for 500 years and will still be there in another 500.
The almost ridiculous, something was going on in this square that was important enough to be filmed,

Decorations for Christmas filling shop windows,

 enormous old churches

a very modern car parked on very old cobblestones

And a well deserved cup of tea one of aforementioned Tea Salons, for weary travellers before they

Head home after a successful day of walking the streets of Lyon
